Supporting Climate Action
We believe that the climate crisis is the biggest threat humanity has ever faced.
The amount of change it will take to slow the earth’s warming to a survivable limit is daunting. Our time to act was ages ago. But even if the world may not be successful in preventing 1.5 degrees C, we can’t give up.
Every degree counts.

Here we discuss how Slicing Pie is a good method for Aotearoa for fairly allocating equity or ownership in new ventures, prior to receiving funding or pay. It has also been used to employed for equity share option programs. We give an overview, as well as example of how we have used it.
A discussion around New Zealand’s seaweed opportunity. Not only can it provide an alternative to destructive marine practices while helping to grow the economy, it can also restore the natural balance in the ocean, reduce acidity, and provide habitat and food for native species of fish and other species.
the GREEN PARTY of AOTEAROA
No one can exact change like the government. If they are in power, they can make changes to the laws of the country to adhere to a net zero mandate.
We supported the campaign of the Green Party of Aotearoa this year with donations, volunteer resources, and promotions through social media. We encouraged other climate-focused investors and organisations to do the same.

After the first Covid-19 lockdown, Popcorn joined an amazing group of volunteers to see if climate issues could be addressed in the same way the shortages of PPE and logistical hurdles were-by the maker community 3D printing and building solutions and systems allowing for rapid peer-to-peer collaboration.
The volunteers came up with an event to kick off the concept of 'crowd-solving' plastic waste. To engage the community to help projects like Precious Plastics, alternative packing, or a new idea entirely. This event had to be postponed but we look forward to sponsoring and attending it someday soon.

Popcorn sponsored Hanna to attend the ClimateX Hackathon event in June 2019. She liked the idea around seaweed as a CO2 sequestration and alternative for food, textiles, fuel, and high value products.
Alongside a very energized bunch of team members, Hanna helped to craft a pitch to judges from the Startup Weekend, Akina, and WWF. The team ‘Kelp Save the World’ won the top prize at the event.
Sharing ideas and experiences among other industry members is a foundation of a community that is stronger together. The hope in bringing climate issues in front of those making and designing the future was central to advocating and co-sponsored the Clean Tech version of Hardware Meetup in 2019.
The amazing businesses showcased were Friendlypak, Critical Design, and Kelp Save the World.
What inspired us was the outstanding creativity, bravery, and perseverance of these businesses in the face of the resistance to change.
